Facebook down? Never fear!

Facebook appears to be down for many users across the globe. Not everyone is affected, however. In fact, the News-Banner Facebook profile and page are both working properly even as I write these words...(knock wood.)

However, for many, many people, their day has officially started on the wrong foot. And they are voicing their dismay at this turn of events on Twitter, making #FacebookDown a Trending Topic.

U.S. GDP the talk of the Twitter

When all else fails for a conversation starter, savvy conversationalists turn to the economy. For instance, today the talk is on twitter is about U.S. 2nd quarter GDP.
Some folks (Republicans, mostly) say it is bad news, others (Democrats and economists, mostly) say it is good news. The fact the stock market opened slightly higher today is one indication of the type of news it is...but there are others.

Watching celebrities crash and burn is a sure-fire way for the rest of us to feel better about our lives. Although celebrity divorces are never fun, no matter how bad our own relationships are. We want to know some folks manage to find a way to be happy.

It is a wild election year in Australia (apparently) as voters head to the polls to choose their next government. There are currently four political parties in Australia and two main candidates, Julia Gillard and Tony Abbott .

Ramadan celebrated; Trends on Twitter

Today marks the first day of Ramadan. Thanks to Twitter those who are not Muslims can be reminded to wish their Muslim friends Happy Ramadan!

Although, since the holiday means a month of fasting (no food, water or sex) from sunrise to sunset, perhaps we should not be wishing them a "happy" holiday and instead, offer them a fulfilling dinner...
