CNN has an interesting story on the sudden increase in the use of all Internet and social networking by agricultural producers across the country. Farmers, it seems have quickly learned to use the many hardware and software options available for staying connected to suppliers and consumers. This is a definite change from the days when farmers were often the last group to grasp onto new technology.
According to the story:
Historically, farms have lagged behind the rest of country in Internet and computer usage. But a 2007 census by the U.S. Department of Agriculture says Web use on farms is increasing. High-speed Internet access doubled on U.S. farms between 2005 and 2007, for instance, jumping from 13 percent to 27 percent.
A national survey on Internet usage among farmer's, provided by the Agricultural and Applied Economics Association, is available here.
