Somebody catches a glimpse of a person on a cell phone in a 1926 film reel and the next thing you know Charlie Chaplin is a Trending Topic on Twitter.
Go figure.
So, what happened is, in case you haven't heard, someone was watching an old film reel from the premiere of a Charlie Chaplin film, circa 1926, and in the footage you can clearly see a woman walking and talking on what appears to be a cell phone.
This makes no sense, of course, but no one has so far been able to explain just what she is doing, or been able to prove the film is a fake.
Decide for yourself about whether she might be a time traveller, but as far me, I enjoy seeing Charlie Chaplin's name in lights again nearly 35 years after his death.....

The Great Pumpkin comes to Twitter
It's Halloween! Which can only mean one thing: "It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown" will be airing on your television at some point. In fact, it is on tonight.
Personally, I have never been a fan of Charlie Brown. I don't enjoy watching that poor, bald headed kid get the short end of the stick time after time. That is not my idea of funny.
But I sure do like the legend of the Great Pumpkin. That's something I can totally get behind...and apparently so can a bunch of Twitter-folks:

Glee goes 'Rocky Horror'
Glee fanatics rejoice! The show is gaining popularity, reaching epic ratings for Fox, practically assuring it will be renewed next year.
In the meantime, Rocky Horror Picture Show fanatics can rejoice that someone has found a way to further destroy the original film (masterpiece) by turning it into a Glee episode.

Paul the Octopus has died
After such an exciting run at accurately predicting the outcome of the 2010 World Cup, Paul, the Psychic Octopus has died.
Paul endured threats against his life from unruly soccer fans as he became more and more accurate with his choices. Some believe he was actually psychic. Others said he was magic. Still others said it was just a bunch of baloney and there was no such thing a a psychic octopus.

Reggae Legend Gregory Isaacs has died of cancer at just 59. The world has lost another great musician at too early an age.

'Hobbit' cast announced
Morgan Freeman to star as Bilbo Baggins in the new 'Hobbit' movie!
Whoops--not MORGAN Freeman. It's Martin Freeman, the British actor who stars in The Office.
Either way it's the biggest news to hit geekdom since, well, since the last time Peter Jackson released a Tolkien-based film.
His new two-film adaptation will be based in New Zealand and be a faithful retelling of the tale of the little guy who finds the magic ring and sword and saves the day for Middle Earth.
At least that's what all the Twitter folks hope. They have made 'Bilbo' Martin Freeman' and 'Baggins' Trending Topics already....

NPR fires Juan Williams-Twitter storm erupts
Twitter is not just for liberals. Apparently Tea Partiers and Neo-Conservatives also use the micro-blogging site. As proof, just check out the firestorm of Tweets which has erupted since National Public Radio fired Juan Williams for espousing racial bias as a Fox News commentator.

Chilean miners get rescued and Trend on Twitter
It seems all you have to do to become a Trending Topic on Twitter these days is spend a couple months trapped a few thousand feet underground and then get rescued by an international coalition of rescuers.
How hard is that?

Christopher Columbus Day!
Christopher Columbus, Italian explorer, funded by Spaniards to find a short route to the Indians (as in, folks from India.)
Of course what he did instead was find a small Caribbean Island and get a holiday named in his honor.
Not too shabby. As long as you don't focus on the mass genocide committed as a result of his discovery.....

2010 Nobel Peace Prize is awarded to jailed Chinese dissident
His name is Liu Xiaobo and he was a student advisor to the group who protested in Tianenman Square in 1989. He is perhaps the most famous jailed Chinese dissident. One of those people corrupt government officials just don't know what to do with, so leave him in jail. Likely forever.
But thankfully, gratefully, the Nobel group has recognized his efforts and awarded him the 2010 prize for peace.
Perhaps he will be freed one day and more importantly, will live to see freedom restored to his homeland....

Ryder Cup overload on Twitter
Ryder Cup hysteria is sweeping the globe as folks tune in to see who gets to go home with the coveted title...
Well, lots of folks, if not everyone.
Four of the top ten Trending Topics on twitter right now relate to Ryder Cup action: Mahan, Rickie Fowler, GMac, Ryder Cup.
Not sure if this online popularity has translated into higher viewership this year, but it certainly gives you an idea how popular this event is and how plugged-in its watchers are...
