Christopher Columbus Day!

Christopher Columbus, Italian explorer, funded by Spaniards to find a short route to the Indians (as in, folks from India.)
Of course what he did instead was find a small Caribbean Island and get a holiday named in his honor.

Not too shabby. As long as you don't focus on the mass genocide committed as a result of his discovery.....
