Little Tweets can move mountains

Conan O'Brien is on Twitter. In fact, he only recently joined the micro-blogging site last week but already has more than 500,000 Followers.
That is perhaps not so unusual.
What is unusual is that O'Brien decided, at random it seems, to Follow one anonymous young woman from Michigan: Sarah Killen
Killen suddenly went from having just a handful of Followers to having thousands. She also went from Tweeting about Twizzlers and Tetris to Tweeting about Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure and the Children's Hunger Fund.
Already both those charities are reporting an influx of donations. All because O'Brien decided to hand out a little fame. And the person he handed it to decided to do something good with it.

@ConanOBrien: I've decided to follow someone at random. She likes peanut butter and gummy dinosaurs. Sarah Killen, your life is about to change.

@LovelyButton Thanks for all of your donations for the 3 day for the cure! But now my mom need $2,500 to be able to walk, she's on team lovely button.

By the way, News-Banner is on Twitter too. And so is Online Editor Jerry Battiste.

Fans all-A-Twitter over Academy Awards

It was hard to get a word in edgewise on Twitter last night. At least a word that didn't have something to do with the 2010 Oscars or 82nd Academy Awards.
Folks were dishing on Red Carpet appearances, who was wearing what; who looked good, who looked great and who really needs a make-over.

No doubt this is big news for Baby Boomers, which is evident by the way the topic is quickly heading toward 'trending status' on twitter. Perhaps Twitter's 10 billionth Tweet will be Gilligan-related...

Twitter best source of news in a disaster

It seems Twitter is the fastest way to get news into or out of a disaster area. This has been proven many times, most recently during the earthquake disaster in Chile.
People Tweeted during the catastrophe and immediately after. They related news about the effects of the earthquake, missing persons and now relief efforts.
