Amazon drops Wikileaks; Lieberman credited

Senator Joe Lieberman used his political muscle to sway Amazon to stop hosting the Wikileaks website this week.
Lieberman has been crowing about his accomplishment ever since, saying to not have shut down the site would have been a "shame on the civilized world."
In the meantime, given that Wikileaks has not been accused of any crime, some are wondering that such a blatant example of censorship should go unnoticed in the 'Land of the Free'....

As some are rejoicing at the assault on Wikileaks, others are decrying the notion of true Internet Freedom. When the government can shut down any website it chooses, are any web sites safe from persecution?

@kbbl_tv US-Senator Joe Lieberman censors the web! STOP AMAZON!

@CathyGellis Sen. Lieberman on Assange: "He's a menace... If we can't shut this guy down, shame on the civilized world." This is more true re: Lieberman.

@evgenymorozov No one in the US government should ever rhapsodize about "Internet freedom" if they don't condemn Amazon & Lieberman

@MisterDiskord RT @Moltz: Joe Lieberman is just the adult diaper to soak up a Wikileak.

@2ysur2ysub President Obama is starting to act like Lieberman after Cheney-GOP tore him apart during the election debate: he joined forces with them.

@LopezLuciana O Departamento de Segurança Doméstica dos Estados Unidos e o senador americano Joe Lieberman...

@CaptainFlournoy When I see a celebrity's name as a trending topic, I assume they've died. So, rest in peace Joe Lieberman. We loved you well, son!

@schmidtutz US-Senator Lieberman "Ich rufe alle Unternehmen und Organisationen, die #Wikileaks hosten, auf, sofort die Geschäftsbeziehungen zu beenden."

@dankennedy_nu Amazon's actions as a private company bother me a lot less than Lieberman's anti-First Amendment threats.

@5sahandful @Book_Donkey we couldn't be lucky enough for Lieberman to shut down his own campaign website, could we?

@amities @DeathToIsrael @Jinjirrie Lieberman (né Lvovich) felt so at ease in Mother Russia that he had them calling him by his real name: Evet

@hewiak Amazon cut WikiLeaks off yesterday after being contacted by Joe Lieberman. Your big-bank buddies getting nervous Joe? http://bit.ly/edcgGP

@dragonflyeye How #Lieberman chilled free speech, cutting off #WikiLeaks on Amazon. Don't have to love WikiLeaks to see the prob. http://lsdfe.net/ijxjZv

@ET2U Is it worth calling my senator (Lieberman) to ask him not to cave in to GOP on tax cuts? Hasn't he pretty much caved to GOP already?
